BOVINE – DONOR Blood (Defibrinated Blood)

SKU: 72308
Defibrinated Blood is manufactured when animal whole blood is aseptically drawn, without the use of an anticoagulant, into a bag or bottle containing marbles to promote clotting. The container is placed on a shaker to ensure the clot aggregates on the marbles. The clot is then removed, effectively eliminating the clotting factors and negating the need for an anticoagulant. A 48 hour microbial content test is performed to screen for gross bacterial contamination, however this test may be waived if a fresher draw is required. Defibrinated blood is sold as a refrigerated liquid, however the following two processing options can be performed in order to keep the product frozen for extended storage:  Defibrinated Blood is often used in the manufacturing of Blood Agar Plates, due to the reduced risk of clotting.
